The road to weight loss is often engulfed with fad diets, and gym equipment inundated with dust and broken promises. If you are looking to lose weight, you should choose healthy foods, watch your calories and, you do need to make sure you are getting regular physical activity.

And what better time of the year than spring time to jump start your fitness and kick it up a notch? Beautiful longer days and of course warmer weather presents the perfect motivation. And it isn’t necessary to begin training for a 5k marathon, either; as long as you’re getting a lot more exercise than you used to, you’re on the right path. Let the revitalization of Spring inspire you to knock down those barriers and once and for all make fitness a habit and a way of life for the rest of your life.

The Power of Exercise

Consistent exercise enhances the quality of your life, improves your mood, enables you to burn off stress — and most importantly, it strengthens your body while it burns tons of calories. Exercise  guides your body to work the way it was designed to. Even simply taking a long brisk walk is a good, weight-bearing exercise that keeps your muscles — including the heart — strong.

The next time you complete your workout, think about how wonderful you feel. A lot of people have trouble getting their workout started, but once they finish, they feel exhilarated, largely due to endorphins, the feel-good brain chemicals.

Research suggests that exercise improves mental health in people with cardiovascular disease, and that music will boosts brainpower. And the combination of both exercise and music was found to be more stimulating to the brain than exercise alone. So make sure you have your favorite music prepared before you begin your workout!

‘I Despise Exercise’

If those words have come out of your mouth, it is likely what you despise is not the exercise itself, but the burden of having to do it.

Think of it differently. Instead of viewing exercise as a burden, replace the word exercise with physical activity. Now examine all the things that qualifies as physical activity — from swimming, bike riding, walking, softball, gardening and tennis.

Thinking of it this way will make it much simpler to find activities that you actually enjoy doing, and exercise won’t feel like a burden if you are enjoying yourself.

Speaking of enjoyment, spring fairly beckons us to come outside and enjoy nature’s beauty. So treat yourself to a good pair of sneakers, step counter and calorie tracker and go hit the streets. Walking is one of the less strenuous forms of physical activity, and it can be done almost anywhere.

If you have physical limitations, check with your doctor, and let allow me to, give you some tips on my Facebook page IM (Team Angie Fitness Boot Camp). Keep in mind that activities done on a stationary bike or in water, take pressure off your joints and could possibly be a great way to begin your journey.

Commit

One of the best methods for making activity a habit is to commit to a program — or to a “buddy” (Buddy System). Knowing that your  “buddy” is at your door waiting for you at 8 a.m. is a awesome motivator to drag yourself out of bed. Likewise, if you sign up for a class or buy a gym membership, you are making both a personal and financial commitment. When you know someone is counting on you, it’s easier to stay motivated.

There are nights when I would much prefer to curl up under my comfy comforter and sleep, but I know how much I need to be sure to get my physical activity in and breathe in fresh air, so the sleeping waits a little longer sdue to my commitment to myself to live a healthier lifestyle for life!

Steady and Slow Wins the Race

No matter where you are in your healthy lifestyle journey, your goal should be to continuously  improve upon your fitness level. By lightly increasing the intensity of your workout or adding a couple of extra minutes, you’ll continue to become stronger and fitter and avoid hitting a weight loss plateau.

You can do this…Just focus and work to REVOLUTIONIZE YOUR MIND and you will see the results you desire.

Until next time, happy healthy lifestylin y’all!
