Merrily Celebrating Moms

As we rapidly approach Christmas, I feel myself rapidly approaching burnout. Am I the only one that is feeling that way? For some reason, this holiday season seems to be a little more overwhelming than ones prior. For balance, if that is at all possible, I have been trying to schedule in time for self-care such as outings with my girls, my grown girls, and making space for new friends. Thanks to a mom I recently met, she is making connecting with other moms easier. What’s more is that she also loves to celebrate and empower women!  Nikkie Hancock is a mom who does it all! We initially met over lunch, and honestly, you never know what to expect; moms who have it together are sometimes a little standoffish, not Nikkie, she was so down to earth that it felt like we had been friends for a while. I also attended a brunch she coordinated for Kingwood moms, that I will simply say was awesome.

Before Kingwood Moms, Nikkie was a teacher for 7 years. She taught Kindergarten through Second Grade. During an informal interview she explained, “I loved my students and my co-workers, but teaching became difficult once I had my children. I chose to stay home with my babies, which is one of the hardest jobs I’ll ever do”. It is an adjustment from working full-time and taking care of others children to staying home and taking care of your own “but as cliché as it is, I wouldn’t change it for the world, I am beyond thankful that I am able to stay home with my children”.

Kingwood Moms is a local resource website for moms/dads and caregivers. The purpose of the website is “To Give Moms the Gift of Time”. I have done all the hard work for you so that everything you would need is in one spot. There is a blog section that has various motherhood resources, a calendar or local events, and “my favorite section called Meet a Mom” says Nikkie. Meet a Mom, highlights a local mom in the area; some of the moms highlighted are working moms, stay at home moms, or work at home moms. “Every mom is fierce and deserves the spotlight, but most of all it is hyper-local to Kingwood, Texas, and supports local businesses and events”.

Why did starting Kingwood Moms interest you? “I started Kingwood Moms because I want to help other moms. You need your tribe to help you in life. When I was a first-time mom, I was trying to mommy without mommy friends. Let me tell you, it is not easy!”  “Once I found some mommy friends that helped me, I knew that I wanted to help other moms but at the time I didn’t know what that would look like until I was given the opportunity to join The Local Moms Network, which started in Connecticut”.
The community has been amazing with all the love and support for the website so far, I cannot wait to see what it grows into.

Nikkie is a mom to her beautiful four-year-old daughter and handsome two-year-old son. For awesome mom information, local events and more visit her page @
