Juliana’s Dark Chocolate-Very Cherry Bowl

It’s summer time and the hot weather and sunshine calls for some refreshing treats to cool us all off when we are spending our days enjoying the beautiful weather outside! In the mornings, I enjoy sitting down with a warm cup of tea alongside a nice smoothie bowl to get myself ready and energized for the day ahead. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and enjoying a nice, big smoothie bowl when I wake up is something that I look forward to! Smoothie bowls are quick and easy to prepare and all you need is a high speed blender, some frozen fruit, and your toppings of choice to create a nutritious meal or yummy afternoon snack.

My favorite go-to smoothie bowl is my Dark Chocolate-Very Cherry Bowl. It is PACKED with antioxidants and nothing but good-for-you goodies! This delicious and nutritious bowl will keep you feeling full and energized throughout the day without leaving you feeling weighed down (like some heavy breakfasts tend to do). It has a healthy mix of fruit, complex carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats, that cover all of your nutritional needs. It’s quick, easy, good for your body, and tastes fantastic… is this a dream?

            Smoothie bowls have become very popular in recent years, and are a staple meal for many people who are looking to change their diets. I see them as a great way to replace that tempting hot fudge sundae to a more nutritional sweet treat. Here’s what you need to create this colorful bowl of magic:

 

            -two frozen bananas

            -2 cups of dark pitted cherries

            -1/4 cup of nut milk of choice (I used Silk unsweetened almond/coconut blend)

            -1/2 cup of fresh blueberries

            -1 T of chia seeds

            -1/4 cup of Purely Elizabeth’s Original Grain Granola

            -sliced almonds

            -1 T of unsweetened coconut shreds

            -two pieces of barkTHINS Dark Chocolate Almond pieces

            OPTIONAL: 1 scoop of Aloha Vanilla Bean protein powder

For the Base:

1.     Start off by adding the frozen bananas, dark cherries, and nut milk to a high speed blender. Blend until completely smooth.

Toppings:

2.     Next, pour in to a medium sized bowl and top with fresh blueberries, chia seeds, granola, almonds, coconut shreds, and dark chocolate

3.     Enjoy! 🙂

      If you want your smoothie bowl to have a thicker consistency, add less liquid and more frozen bananas.

 

            There are many reasons why you should switch from your morning bowl of cereal to this dreamy, vitamin-packed smoothie bowl. Here are just a few of the Dark Chocolate-Very Cherry Bowl’s benefits :

 

1.     Bananas are known to be high in potassium, which is good for nerve and muscle function. Bananas are also high in fiber. They are naturally sweet, filling, and are a good substitute for refined sugars and sweeteners that are in other pre-packaged breakfast products.

2.     Dark cherries are also a fiber rich fruit which helps you feel fuller for a longer period of time. It also helps aid in digesting foods more effectively. They are packed with antioxidants and are full of vitamin C!

3.     Blueberries are full of antioxidants and studies have shown (according to Medical News Today) that eating more foods like blueberries can decrease the chances of certain illnesses, like obesity and heart disease. They are also effective in maintaining healthy bones and lowering blood pressure.

4.     Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants and is filled with iron, magnesium, copper, manganese, and zinc. Dark chocolate may lower the risk of heart disease and also improve brain function.

5.     Purely Elizabeth Ancient Grains Granola is filled with omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, B-vitamins, amino acids, and protein.

            The ingredients speak for themselves, but the results will surely do the talking! As you can see from my picture below, I’m a firm believer in a food’s presentation.
