Hey Fresh Lifestylers!

It’s Juliana here with an exciting new recipe to keep you warm and cozy through these cold winter months! As some of you may know from following me on Instagram (Juliana_Banana), I am a HUGE advocate for oatmeal, but not just any oatmeal… I’m talking about my Dark Chocolate Banana Hemp Oatmeal. Sprinkled with hempseeds, cacao, and drizzled with blackstrap molasses. Um… YUM! This oatmeal isn’t just crazy good, its crazy good for you! Its warm, its sweet, it’s everything you could ever dream of when thinking about breakfast. I am always cooking up some chocolate oatmeal in the mornings. I never make oatmeal without my precious cacao powder, and for those of you who don’t own any I expect you to stop what you’re doing right now… and go out and buy some. Don’t worry, this article will still be here when you get back.

For people who have their lives together and already have some in their cabinets (you’re doing it right), I hope you take the time to make some chocolate oatmeal for breakfast in the next few days. It might change your life. To make this delicious bowl of oats you will need:

  • 1/2 cup of gluten free rolled oats
  • 1 ½ cups of water or nut milk
  • 1 ½ tablespoon of cacao powder
  • 1 tablespoon of flax seed
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon of blackstrap molasses
  • 1 tablespoon of cacao nibs
  • 1 teaspoon of maca powder
  • 1 tablespoon of almond butter
  • 1 tablespoon of hemp hearts

First, you will start out by bringing one and a half cups of water to medium heat. Next, you will add in your oats, cacao, maca powder, and flax seed. You will stir up these ingredients until they are well mixed. You will cook the oats on medium heat until they begin to thicken. The flax seed will also help in this process. This will take about ten minutes. Once your oats are as thick as you would like them to be you can transfer the oats to a bowl. Next, I add on my banana slices because chocolate and almond butter aren’t complete without banana in the mix! Last, you will add your toppings! I start out by drizzling on the blackstrap molasses and then the almond butter. This allows them both to melt and the result is mouth-watering (If I had a drooling emoji it would be placed right here). After adding the blackstrap molasses and almond butter I sprinkle on my cacao nibs and hemp hearts! The result is the best breakfast you could ever have your hands on!

This oatmeal is jam PACKED with plant-based iron, which is amazing for you, and so helpful if you don’t’ consume animal products and are looking for new ways to incorporate iron in your diet. Iron is extremely important when talking about hemoglobin. This is the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to transport it throughout your body. If you don’t have enough iron, your body can’t make enough healthy oxygen-carrying red blood cells. A lack of this process is called iron deficiency anemia. So finding ways to add more iron to your meals is beneficial for your health and these two ingredients are super tasty! You get the best of both worlds!

I hope that you find this bowl as satisfying as I do, and I hope that it makes all your breakfast dreams come true. I know it does for me! Until next time Fresh Lifestylers!
