Crystal Bailey is campaigning for Michigan State Senate of the 11th District. This district encompasses 12 cities in Michigan’s Oakland County area. These cities include: Madison Heights, Hazel Park, Royal Oak Township, Ferndale, Oak Park, Southfield, Southfield Lathrup, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Farmington, Farmington Hills, and Northville. Crystal holds a seat as member of the Young Democrats of America and the Michigan Democratic Party. She is currently the President of Walk Fashion Academy Inc. which is a nonprofit (NPO) 501(c)(3) that mentors, trains, and educates individuals interested in art, fashion, sewing classes, runway model trainings, designing, sketching, photo shoot trainings and more.

She is also the CEO and Co-Founder of Walk Fashion Show LLC in which she creates a platform for independent artist, models of all shapes and sizes, designers and other upcoming fashion producers by broadening the scope and destigmatizing what she was told was “industry norms”. Crystal creates a quality marketable fashion production that is now in 27 cities and 3 countries. Crystal is very passionate about creating opportunities for individuals who otherwise would have a dream deferred. Photographers, producers, hair and makeup artists, bloggers, media, and buyers are given a platform to develop their craft in pursuit of their dream.

Akin, what Ms. Bailey does with her NPO is no different than what she has been doing in her community and what she will continue to do as Senator. Crystal started working part-time for Oakland County in 2014 to acquire hands-on knowledge and experience within the judicial system. Crystal’s interest in campaigning for Senate began as a direct impact to her and her daughter. As she continued her journey towards completing her education and her daughter became of school age she noticed changes that negatively impacted decisions she had to make. Considering Bailee’s, (who is now 11 years of age), school was quite a challenge for Crystal because “Michigan has taken a dip in third grade reading throughout the nation” (Detroit News, 2018). For her daughter this was unacceptable, Bailee now attends prominent private school, but the issue remains that the tuition spent there could be saved for her college education. Every student should have access to a quality education no matter where their parents reside. Furthermore, every student should feel safe not only while commuting to and from school but during school hours. The regulation regarding gun control and the nonexistence of universal background checks as they co-inside with mental health statures are far too lenient.

Reopening mental health care facilities in Michigan is a viable resource to getting our mentally ill the proper treatment and shelter they so desperately need and deserve. Additionally, as it pertains to resources, Michiganders should have access to affordable insurance that alleviates unnecessary determinants such as: gender, marital status, mileage, vehicle type, zip codes (redlining), age, credit score, etc. These variables determine the cost of auto insurance in Michigan instead of being purely based on driving records. Ms. Bailey’s passion shines through her work with the Oakland County’s Circuit and Probate Court within the Juvenile Probation Family Division, which was the origin of her decision to run for Senate.
