Chocolate Pecan Donut Hole Recipe

It’s Juliana Banana here with a new sweet treat recipe to help comfort you through these cold winter days that we seem to be embracing a lot of these past few weeks! I have been consistently working on creating yummy treats to keep my chocolate cravings at bay in a healthy and nourishing way. Without homemade sweets I think I would be consuming one too many chocolate bars on a weekly basis (which is sometimes needed) but, I do think it is important not only to eat and nourish, but to eat and satisfy as well. I love cookies, brownies, ice cream, and donuts galore! My donut cravings have been crazy these past few weeks so I set out to create the best donut hole recipe you could come across! These chocolate donut holes are nutty, sweet, and have a coconut maple glaze that will leave you dreaming for days. They are also SO EASY to make and require no baking or frying. This girl was spooning the glaze right out the pan (not sorry about it). This recipe requires simple ingredients that are plant-based, raw, refined sugar free, and gluten free!

For my Chocolate Pecan Donut Holes, you will need:

  • 1/2 cup of pecans (soaked)
  • 1/2 cup of walnuts (soaked)
  • 2 cups of pitted deglect noor dates (pitted) and soaked for about 15 minutes
  • 1/4 cup of cacao powder

First things first, I take the dates and nuts and soak them in a large bowl of water for about 15 minutes. Then, I drain the bowl and empty the ingredients in to a high speed blender (I use a Vitamix). I add in the cacao powder to the mix and blend until a thick paste forms. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure you’re getting all of it! Once a thick paste forms, I spoon the mixture out and roll them in to balls (about 2 inches thick). I transfer these to a baking sheet and place them in the freezer for about 20 minutes for them to cool. While the donut holes are in the freezer, I begin to make the glaze!

For the Coconut Maple Glaze you will need:

  • 3 tbsp of coconut butter (melted)
  • 2 tbsp of pure maple syrup

First I grab a small pan and let it heat for about 5 minutes on low. Then, I scoop out 3 tablespoons of coconut butter and let it melt in in the pan. Once the coconut butter has melted, I add 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup and stir on low until a thick gooey consistency has formed (YUM). I then pull the donut holes out of the freezer and dip them one by one in the maple glaze. Once you have dipped them once, you are welcome to freeze them and then add a second layer of glaze to make them extra yummy. If one layer is enough for you, you just put them back in the freezer and let them freeze for about 30 minutes or overnight to enjoy for breakfast the next day!

These donut holes are TO DIE FOR. I seriously love them so much and they are the perfect sweet treat to pop in your mouth whether its for breakfast, a snack, or dessert. They are incredibly healthy without sacrificing flavor at all, and will satisfy your sweet tooth completely!
